I'm looking for a garden design software - this is the one I'm going for probably - partly because it is australian based plants/climate etc I'm designing an ornamental vegetable garden. There are heaps of plants in this program but does it include a lot of different vegetables?

There are only a few vegetables on it so not worth it for your use

There are a couple of free ways you could create your 3d garden or house.

First, you could use a free 3d modeling program. You would need to install the program on your computer and then create your scene by 'drawing' with 3d shapes. The output of one of these programs can be many different things - still images, animations, or even interactive applications.

The easiest to use of these free tools is called SketchUp and can be found at: sketchup.google.com. It is probably your best bet. If you need more options and flexibility, take a look at Blender at: www.blender.org.

Another way to go is to create your garden or home in a free multi-user online environment. The most popular one of these is SecondLife (www.secondlife.com). In this program you can create a home or garden that other people can visit and ejoy as well. If you want it to stay in the world while you are gone you would have to pay for some real estate, but it is still possible to create your scene and drop it down in the world whenever you visit.

It's due soon, but i want to make it look 3d rather than i just cut out the dresses and pasted them on the poster. I lack creative ability, so any help would be greatly needed. :). Thanks.

Why don't you just cut out the side and top of a box, and use that as your backdrop instead of a poster? Decorate it as the garden, use small objects and improvise to make plants and just use various materials. That should make the project more interesting.

Just don't make it too detailed as it will take away from the dresses.

Broderbund software corp. used to offer a good one. It even allowed you to see up to five years of growth. Check on Ebay for 3D landscape design.

I'm trying to decide where to plant some trees and I must make sure they get a fair amount of shade in the afternoon, and I don't remember exactly how much shade/sun there was in certain parts of my yard. I have used the sun angle calculator to get an estimate of where the sun will be in the sky at certain times during the day in the summer, but it would be nice if I could model it in 3D. I use sketchup for modeling.

yes. sketchup's shadow abilities are accurate, and by setting a custom location you can view the sun's path over 12 months at different times of the day. model your yard, fence, trees, details etc to see what the shadows will do
